Thanks for visiting the Art of Chop. I asked him to write a brief biography to put on this page but the only thing he said was “Hey, I’m CHOP”. So there you have it. From what I can dig up, Chop grew up surrounded by muscle cars in the 70s. The days were filled with drag racing and dirt track circle cars. Nights were in a dimly lit garage handing his dad tools as the latest and greatest Hemi powered behemoth was readied to hit the street and strip. With these surroundings and drawing in every minute of free time the two were bound to come together eventually. In his rebellious teens it was punk rock and drawing concert posters was a good way to make some cash and get into the shows for free. He somehow got talked into designing graphics for a few custom painters in the mini-truck scene in the early 90s. That scene thankfully died off and he made enough money to start playing in real steel. With responsibilities beating on the door he dreamed of easier times. His art and his cars then took a turn to the traditional, the real. No airbags, billet, low profile big inched rims, just hotrods and customs; the way they were suppose to be built. Fords or Chevys, a Hemi or a Flathead, roadster or hardtop…. it just doesn’t matter anymore.

About the Art: If you look at any of his pieces you get the feel of the object. The black, white, and array of grays in between, show the coldness of the metal but yet the heat of the object running down the highway on a hot summers’ day. They are snapshots from his mind. Every piece shows a detail that makes you dream of what the rest of the machine looks like. Most of his art depicts motors, the heartbeat of any hotrod, and the source of the power. Done on heavy bond, using a vast assortment of media from permanent markers and watercolors, to pencils and spray paint each piece has a life of its own. Whether it’s on the drag strip, out on the salt, or blasting down the boulevard, Chop’s art shows an inspired true to life view of why these cars are built, loved, and driven.
